Dolcenera is the stage name of Emanuela Trane, an Italian singer, songwriter, and actress born 16 May 1977. She rose to prominence in 2003 after winning the newcomers' section of the Sanremo Music Festival, but her commercial breakthrough came in 2005 when she won the music-reality show Music Farm and released her second album, Un mondo perfetto. That year she was also awarded Best New Artist of the Year at the Italian Meeting of Independent Record Labels and received the De André Award for Best Emerging Artist. She returned to Sanremo in 2006 performing the hit single "Com'è straordinaria la vita" from the album Il popolo dei sogni, and again in 2009 with "Il mio amore unico" from her fourth studio album Dolcenera nel paese delle meraviglie—her first release on a major label, Sony Music. After signing with EMI, she released her fifth studio album, Evoluzione della specie, in 2011. That year she also appeared on the Italian version of Professor Green's single "Read All About It (Tutto quello che devi sapere)," which was reissued in the 2012 edition of Evoluzione della specie following her Sanremo 2012 performance of "Ci vediamo a casa". As a singer and songwriter, Dolcenera performs live, records albums, and composes original material.
