Donald Glover

Donald McKinley Glover Jr. — also known by stage name Childish Gambino — is an American screenwriter, actor, rapper, singer, comedian, and filmmaker. Born September 25, 1983, in the US, Glover trained at New York University and launched his comedy career with Derrick Comedy before Tina Fey hired him to write for NBC's 30 Rock at age 23. He gained mainstream fame portraying college student Troy Barnes on the NBC sitcom Community from 2009 to 2014.

Glover's breakthrough as a creator came with the FX series Atlanta (2016–2022), which he created, starred in, and occasionally directed; the show earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. His film roles span genres: he appeared in The Lazarus Effect (2015), Magic Mike XXL (2015), The Martian (2015), and played Aaron Davis in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). He voiced adult Simba in The Lion King (2019) and produced and starred in the short film Guava Island (2019). He co-created the comedy thriller series Swarm (2023) and in 2024 created and starred in Prime Video's Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

As Childish Gambino, Glover signed with Glassnote Records in 2011 and released his debut album Camp in November that year. His second album Because the Internet (2013) produced the single '3005', his first Billboard Hot 100 entry. His 2016 psychedelic funk single 'Redbone' peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B Performance, and preceded the album Awaken, My Love! (2016). His 2018 single 'This Is America' debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and won four Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Performance, and Best Music Video — making it the first hip-hop song ever to win the first two categories, per Guinness World Record. He released the album 3.15.20 in 2020, followed by Atavista in 2024 and his fifth album Bando Stone & the New World, also in 2024.
