Emily Bear made her professional piano debut at Ravinia Festival at age five, the youngest performer ever to play there, then gained wider notice from appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show beginning at age six. She performed with orchestras and ensembles across North America, Europe and Asia, including Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, the Montreux Jazz Festival and Jazz Open Stuttgart. She won two Morton Gould Young Composer Awards and two Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composers Awards, becoming the youngest person ever to win both.
In 2013, she released the jazz album Diversity, produced by her mentor Quincy Jones. She composes classical, jazz, pop, film and TV scores, and was heard on the 2015 Broadway cast recording of Doctor Zhivago. Her 2017 EP Into the Blue came with her jazz trio; her 2019 EP Emotions marked her first release as a singer on her own songs. She was the youngest performer in the Night of the Proms tour history in 2017.
With Abigail Barlow, she co-wrote and released The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical in 2021, which won the 2022 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, making Bear the youngest Grammy nominee and winner ever in the musical theater category. She was listed on Forbes' 2022 30 Under 30. Her 2023 film score for Dog Gone made her the youngest person to score a feature film for a streaming platform. In mid-2023, she toured as featured pianist for Beyoncé's Renaissance World Tour. She and Barlow wrote songs for Disney's Moana 2 in 2024.
