Jake Zyrus is a Filipino singer and television personality born 10 May 1992. Originally known professionally as Charice Pempengco, he rose to prominence after performing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2007 and The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2008. On the Oprah appearance, he was surprised by Céline Dion via Skype, who invited him to perform with her at Madison Square Garden during her 2008 world tour; the two sang "Because You Loved Me," dedicating the performance to Zyrus' mother. He performed in concerts alongside David Foster and Andrea Bocelli, and released the album My Inspiration in 2009. His breakthrough came with the studio album Charice in 2010, which debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200—a historic achievement as the first album by an Asian solo singer to enter the top 10. The single "Pyramid," featuring Iyaz, became his most successful single to date, charting in the top 40 across multiple countries after its live performance debut on Oprah.
