Born September 21, 1970, in Toms River, New Jersey, he graduated from Monsignor Donovan High School and began his career in regional theater, where he played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Lieutenant Cable in South Pacific, Cinderella's Prince in Into the Woods, and Tony in West Side Story. His first Broadway credit was Feuilly in Les Misérables, where he understudied Enjolras before moving to Jean Valjean understudy. Cudia's signature work centered on The Phantom of the Opera: he joined the U.S. touring production as a swing in 1999, met his future wife Kathy Voytko (an alternate Christine) there, and was promoted to Raoul within nine months. He played Raoul on Broadway for three years (2003–2005), understudy to the Phantom. After earning the principal Phantom role in the touring cast in 2006 and staying until spring 2008, he returned to Broadway as a 10-week substitute for Howard McGillin, opening May 22 and running through July 28, 2008. He became principal Phantom at the Majestic Theatre on July 27, 2009, concluding September 4, 2010, when Hugh Panaro took over. Later roles included understudying Juan Perón in the Broadway revival of Evita, reprising Perón in Vancouver Opera in April 2016, and making his Lyric Opera of Chicago debut as Curly in Oklahoma!.
