Joshuah Bearman turned a 2007 Wired article into one of cinema's biggest nights. The American journalist and screenwriter, born in 1972, wrote the piece on a CIA mission during the Iran Hostage Crisis that became Argo, the 2012 film that swept the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and BAFTAs. Biography
Joshuah Bearman is an American journalist and screenwriter whose 2007 Wired article on a CIA mission during the Iran Hostage Crisis became the 2012 film Argo. Directed by and starring Ben Affleck, with George Clooney producing, the film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Drama, the BAFTA Award for Best Film, and the Academy Award for Best Picture. The screenplay adapted from Bearman's article won both the Writer's Guild Award and the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Born January 1, 1972, in the United States, Bearman has contributed to some of journalism's most prestigious outlets: Rolling Stone, Harper's, Wired, The New York Times Magazine, The Believer, and McSweeney's, along with the public radio program This American Life. He was a contributing producer on the documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. In 2014, Bearman was nominated for a National Magazine Award for his article "Coronado High, the Story of America's First Drug Empire," co-published in GQ and Atavist. That same year, he co-founded Epic, a digital publication of narrative non-fiction and film and television production company. As a Capricorn, his disciplined approach to narrative journalism has built a career bridging print, documentary, and film. Bearman is an advisory board member of 826LA, a non-profit tutoring organization, and produced and directed McSweeney's Presents, a live comedy series fundraiser for the organization. He lives in Los Angeles, California.
