Kanen (stage name of Karen Pinette Fontaine) is an Innu singer-songwriter from Uashat-Maliotenam, Quebec, born January 1999. She entered the music scene in 2019 as a member of Florent Vollant's Nikamu Mamuitun collective, a collaborative project that included Marcie Michaud-Gagnon, Joëlle St-Pierre, Chloé Lacasse, Scott-Pien Picard, Matiu, Cédrik St-Onge, and Ivan Boivin. That same year she released her self-titled debut EP. In 2020, she competed in the Francouvertes music competition.
Beyond recording, Kanen has worked with the Wapikoni Mobile filmmaking collective, where she directed the short film Battles and appeared in Sonia Bonspille Boileau's documentary Wapikoni.
