Kasper Collin

Kasper Collin is a Swedish film director, documentary filmmaker, and screenwriter based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Born 16 November 1972, he first gained international attention with My Name Is Albert Ayler, his debut feature documentary, which opened theatrically in the UK and US in 2007 and 2008. The film earned a Metacritic score of 83 out of 100 and a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

His second feature, I Called Him Morgan, premiered 1 September 2016 at the 73rd Venice Film Festival. The documentary went on to screen at Telluride, Toronto International, New York, and BFI London film festivals before its US theatrical release on 24 March 2017. On Netflix globally from 24 July 2017 (excluding UK and Sweden initially), the film achieved a Metacritic score of 90 out of 100, with eight perfect reviews registered, and earned a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. Metacritic named it the best-reviewed film of the first half of 2017, and it finished the year as the seventh best-reviewed film and third best-reviewed documentary. Major publications including the New York Times, New Yorker, Time, and Esquire included it in their best-of-2017 lists.

Indiewire identified Collin as one of nine breakthrough names at Toronto International Film Festival 2016. From 2009 to 2014, he served as one of two chairmen of Oberoende Filmares Förbund, Sweden's independent filmmakers' organization. As a screenwriter and documentary filmmaker, Collin specializes in archival research and character portraiture.
