Ne-Yo built his career on songwriting precision before becoming a chart force himself. After crafting Mario's "Let Me Love You" in 2004, he signed to Def Jam under Jay-Z and released his 2005 debut single "Stay" (featuring Peedi Peedi). His breakthrough came that same year with "So Sick", which topped the Billboard Hot 100 and preceded his 2006 debut album *In My Own Words*—a Billboard 200 chart-topper that earned platinum RIAA certification and two Grammy nominations at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards.

His second and third albums, *Because of You* (2007) and *Year of the Gentleman* (2008), consolidated his dominance, peaking at numbers one and two on the Billboard 200. *Because of You* won Best Contemporary R&B Album at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, while *Year of the Gentleman* spawned "Miss Independent", which won Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song at the 51st Annual Grammy Awards. The latter album achieved double platinum US certification and triple platinum in the UK, selling two million copies.

Ne-Yo continued releasing albums through the 2010s and 2020s—*Libra Scale* (2010), *R.E.D.* (2012) with the Billboard Hot 100 top-ten single "Let Me Love You (Until You Learn to Love Yourself)", *Non-Fiction* (2015), *Good Man* (2018), and *Another Kind of Christmas* (2019). Alongside recording, he judged the reality competition *World of Dance* from 2017 to 2020 alongside Jennifer Lopez and Derek Hough. In 2023, he competed on the tenth season of *The Masked Singer* as the Cow and won the season. Born October 18, 1979, Ne-Yo is a Libra whose creative range spans songwriting, performing, and television. As a singer and producer, he has sold 29 million certified albums and singles in the United States, with Billboard ranking "Give Me Everything" and "Knock You Down" among the Greatest Songs of the Summer of all time.
