He defeated CK Raut (Janamat Party chairman), Umesh Kumar Yadav (former Irrigation minister), and Satish Kumar Singh (former Chief Minister of Madhesh Province). He later moved to Janata Samajwadi Party in 2019 as a district committee member before joining Rastriya Swatantra Party in 2026 to contest the election.
