The group launched on January 3, 2022, under co-management by WakeOne and Swing Entertainment. Their debut EP First Impact achieved immediate commercial success, moving approximately 400,000 copies and topping South Korea's Gaon Album Chart. The lead single "Wa Da Da" charted on both the Billboard Global 200 and World Digital Songs. The early momentum earned them New Wave of the Year recognition at the Asia Artist Awards and Seoul Music Awards. Kep1er expanded internationally with a Japanese debut single, "Fly-Up," released September 7, 2022, under Sony Music Entertainment Japan's Ariola Japan label.
