Steve Lacy

Steve Thomas Lacy-Moya was born May 23, 1998, in the US. He is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer. Lacy joined the alternative R&B band the Internet in 2015 as guitarist, establishing himself as a key member of the group. His self-produced debut EP, Steve Lacy's Demo, dropped in 2017 to critical acclaim and became a sleeper hit, signaling his ear for innovative production. That same year he guest-performed on Tyler, the Creator's "911 / Mr. Lonely" alongside Frank Ocean—the track earned double platinum certification—and co-wrote records for Solange Knowles and Kendrick Lamar's "Pride". His debut studio album Apollo XXI (2019) earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album, solidifying his status as a rising producer-artist. Lacy continued collaborating, appearing on Vampire Weekend's "Sunflower" and Calvin Harris' "Live Without Your Love" in 2019; the latter charted in the UK. He signed with RCA Records and released his second studio album Gemini Rights in 2022, which peaked in the top ten of the Billboard 200. The album's breakout single "Bad Habit" went viral on TikTok, eventually topping the Billboard Hot 100, and earned three Grammy nominations—Best Pop Solo Performance, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year—at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards, while Gemini Rights won Best Progressive R&B Album. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023.
