Um Sang-hyun is a South Korean voice actor born December 29, 1971. Before voicing, he worked in theaters—performing as a Japanese assassinator and royal servant in the 1997 musical The Last Empress, and serving as assistant director for Gaeddongi and Moskito the same year. He also appeared in the 1992 independent film Opening the Closed School Gates. Um joined Educational Broadcasting System's voice acting division in 1998 and worked exclusively there until becoming a freelancer in 2001. His breakthrough came in the early 2000s when he voiced Kira Yamato on the Korean dub of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED, which led to high-profile work dubbing Chrono Crusade, Digimon Frontier, Fullmetal Alchemist, InuYasha, and School Rumble.
