Victor Norén co-founded Sugarplum Fairy, a pop-rock band from Borlänge, Sweden, in 1998 with his brother Carl Norén and drummer Kristian Gidlund. The band's name came from a Beatles deep-cut: John Lennon's count-in on "A Day in the Life" where he says "sugar-plum-fairy". After releasing demos, Sugarplum Fairy signed to EMI Records in 2004 and dropped their debut album Young & Armed that September, led by the single "Sweet Jackie". They toured extensively in Sweden, Japan, and Germany, with regional editions of their debut released in 2005. The band issued a second album, First Round First Minute, in 2006, followed by a third in 2008 that covered The Hollies' "Bus Stop". In 2009 they went on hiatus. Tragedy struck in 2011 when Gidlund was diagnosed with stomach cancer; he died in 2013. Norén's brothers—he and Carl—are related to Gustaf Norén, former frontman of Mando Diao. Born September 19, 1985, Norén is a Virgo. As a male performer in a Swedish rock band, he shaped the country's early 2000s indie-pop landscape.
