Yuna

Yuna (Yunalis binti Mat Zara'ai Sinclair) rose from bedroom recordings to international recognition through early internet exposure. Born in Kedah and raised in Perlis and Selangor, Malaysia, on 14 November 1986, she began writing songs at age 14 and taught herself guitar while attending law school. Her 2008 self-titled EP earned five Malaysian Music Awards nominations and four wins, including Best New Artist and Best Song for "Dan Sebenarnya".

The Decorate EP followed in 2010, featuring the viral single "Rocket," which caught attention from Billboard, indie radio station KEXP, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, and Spin magazine. MTV's Iggy nominated her as one of the Best New Bands in the World in 2011, and she performed at MTV Studios. Her 2012 single "Live Your Life," produced by Pharrell Williams, preceded her self-titled full-length debut that April; she performed at Lollapalooza that summer.

Yuna's 2013 album Nocturnal featured the single "Falling." In 2016, she released "Places to Go" (produced by DJ Premier) and the album Chapters, which broke into Billboard's Top 10 Best R&B Albums of 2016 and ranked number 7 on the Critic's Pick list. Rolling Stone nominated Chapters in the Top 20 Best R&B Albums of 2016, and she received the Malaysian Book Of Records award for Most Successful Malaysian Singer. Her breakout collaboration with Usher, "Crush," peaked at number 3 on the US Billboard Adult R&B chart. In May 2017, Yuna became the first singer from Asia nominated for a BET Award, receiving a nomination for the BET Centric Award.

As a singer-songwriter, Yuna performs live, records studio albums, and collaborates across R&B and indie-pop genres. Her Scorpio nature aligns with the sign's introspective and magnetic qualities. A Malaysian citizen born in 1986, she represents a generation of Asian artists who built international careers via digital platforms before major-label backing.
