Zaniar Moradi was a Kurdish political prisoner from Marivan, Iran. Born in 1987, he was detained in 2009 alongside his cousin Loghman Moradi on charges related to the death of the son of Marivan's Friday prayers imam. Both men were executed on 8 September 2018. After sentencing, they issued a letter stating confessions had been coerced through duress and torture, and that neither had participated in the alleged assassination. Moradi also claimed authorities had held him for nine months solely on grounds of Komala Party membership. Amnesty International raised the case internationally, documenting that the men had been denied access to legal counsel following their arrest.
