Michael Prywes is an American screenwriter, director, producer, author, and attorney born October 8, 1974, in New York. He began his film career as an undergraduate at Northwestern University. His feature film directing debut, Returning Mickey Stern, had its theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles on April 25, 2003, followed by a DVD release in 2006. A follow-up feature, The King of Summer, collapsed and led to the 2005 New York Supreme Court lawsuit Prywes v. Eight Entertainment, et al., which was covered in the Hollywood Reporter.
Since 2021, Prywes has served as Chair of the Film program at Five Towns College, where he teaches law, producing, and writing. He has also taught law at Touro Law Center and LIU-Brooklyn, as well as writing at CUNY Queens College. He continues to serve as a guest lecturer in graduate courses and works as a consultant, panelist, and judge at various film festivals. On May 20, 2001, Prywes married Devra Scheikowitz, an entertainment and media executive.
