She was selected among five Nepali writers to represent Nepal at the SAARC Literature Festival in Kathmandu. Malla holds a master's degree in journalism and mass communication from Punjab Technical University, India, and completed a master diploma in cinema at the Asian Academy of Film and Television, India. She directs Sarwanam Theatre Group, the leading theatre ensemble in Nepal, and serves as board director of Sarwanam Dramatic Art Centre, which houses Nepal's first dedicated theatre auditorium, art gallery, and workshop space.
