His low-key vocal style echoes French pop star Étienne Daho, and he has worked as writer, arranger or producer for icons including Juliette Gréco, Julien Clerc, Françoise Hardy, Vanessa Paradis and Nolwenn Leroy. He produced his sister Coralie Clément's first three albums and co-wrote and produced Keren Ann's first two albums. With Keren Ann, he contributed several songs to Chambre avec Vue, the comeback album of Henri Salvador. Biolay wrote or performed most songs on the 2004 soundtrack to Clara et Moi and released the album Home with his wife the same year. After two rock-oriented albums in 2005 and 2007, he was dropped by his record company and began his first independent release, La Superbe, on Naïve records in 2009. This was followed by Pourquoi tu pleures (2011) and Vengeance (2012). Biolay is the ex-husband of Chiara Mastroianni, daughter of Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni.
