Prabda Yoon is a Thai writer, filmmaker, and visual artist born in Bangkok in 1973. His literary debut—*City of Right Angles*, a collection of five linked New York stories, and the follow-up *Probability*—both appeared in 2000 and established him as a major voice in Thai letters. *Probability* won the S.E.A. Write Award in 2002, recognizing accomplished Southeast Asian writers.
Over the next decade, Yoon published over 20 books of fiction and nonfiction, designed more than 100 book covers, and translated Western classics including Vladimir Nabokov's *Lolita* and *Pnin*, all of J.D. Salinger's works, Anthony Burgess's *A Clockwork Orange*, and Karel Čapek's *R.U.R.*. He co-wrote two screenplays for Thai filmmaker Pen-Ek Ratanaruang: *Last Life in the Universe* (2003) and *Invisible Waves* (2006). His paintings, drawings, and installations have been exhibited in Thailand and Japan; he has also produced music and written songs with Buahima and The Typhoon Band.
In 2004, Yoon founded Typhoon Studio, a publishing house with two imprints, Typhoon Books and Sunday Afternoon. He opened Bookmoby Readers' Cafe at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre in 2012. His directorial debut, *Motel Mist* (2015), premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2016. *The Sad Part Was*, a 2017 English translation of twelve of his short stories by Mui Poopoksakul (an English PEN Award winner), was published by London's Tilted Axis and is noted as the first translation of Thai fiction published in the UK. Yoon received the 2021 Fukuoka Prize in Arts and Culture.
